Children’s Dentistry in Marysville, WA

Children's dentistry or pediatric dentistry is a branch of dentistry that deals with the oral healthcare of children. It is an interdisciplinary dental specialty that focuses on oral health care from infancy to young adulthood. In our practice, we provide preventative, diagnostic, and treatment services for children.

The lack of regular dental visits facilitated by parents has made periodontal disease the leading cause of tooth loss for children and teenagers. Our dentist here in Allen Creek Dentistry is committed to making the dental experience pleasant for their young patients and helping them overcome their fears of visiting the dentist so that they can achieve a lifetime of healthy oral health.

What Are the Common Dental Issues in Children?

Teething: Infants begin to get their first set of teeth when they are about six months old, and it takes nearly two years to complete tooth eruption. During this time, there may be some discomfort or irritability, but it is not considered a dental emergency.

Dental decay:Tooth decay is a bacterial infection that starts when sugar combines with bacteria in the mouth, creating acid that dissolves tooth enamel.

Gum disease:Gingivitis causes inflammation of the gums and results in bleeding and swollen gums. If not treated promptly, it can advance to periodontitis, causing bone loss and tooth loss.

Tooth decay:Tooth decay is one of the most common pediatric dental issues. When you notice your child's first tooth coming in, brush it with a soft infant toothbrush and clean between teeth with a washcloth or gauze pad to remove sticky substances that attract bacteria.

What Are the Preventive Measures for Children?

  • Brush your child's teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush after meals or snacks, and floss at least once a day to remove plaque buildup between teeth and under the gum line.
  • Use fluoridated toothpaste for children older than 2 years old as per the directions on the product label. Fluoride supplements can be given to children younger than 2 years old only if prescribed by your dentist.
  • Provide healthy snacks such as hard cheese or dried fruits instead of sugary foods or drinks such as soda or juice to prevent tooth decay.
  • Take your child to see a dentist six months after their first tooth appears or within six months after their first birthday, whichever comes sooner.

How Are Dental Issues in Children Treated?

We offer preventive dentistry treatments like dental examination, dental cleaning, fluoride application, and sealants to prevent tooth decay in children starting from infancy to young adulthood.

We also provide restorative treatments like fillings, crowns, and bridges if there is any decay or damage in their oral cavity. The treatment procedures used for restorative dentistry in children are less invasive than those used for adults.
